Family Court Support Program

General Information the Family Court Support Program

The Family Court Support Program helps individuals experiencing domestic violence who are involved in, or considering becoming involved in, the family court process. Support is available to help clients better understand court procedures, increase access to services, and strengthen safety planning.

Information and resources may be shared in person, by phone, or through mailed and electronic materials to ensure support remains accessible throughout the process.

Who This Program Supports

Who Can Access Family Court Support?

The program supports individuals experiencing domestic violence who are involved in, or considering involvement in, the family court process. Support is available regardless of where someone is in their legal journey.

Practical Support Throughout The Family Court Process

Family Court Support Workers provide guidance before, during, and after important legal meetings. Assistance may include helping clients document histories of abuse, understanding family court forms, and preparing required paperwork accurately and on time.
  • Support documenting histories of abuse for family court materials and required paperwork.
  • Guidance understanding family court forms, their purpose, and how to complete them accurately and on time.
  • Debriefing after court appearances, lawyer appointments, Family Law Information Clinic meetings, and duty counsel consultations.
  • Assistance identifying next steps following legal meetings, court outcomes, or recommendations.
  • Accompaniment to court proceedings, lawyer appointments, and case conferences when appropriate.
  • Support arranging transportation to important legal appointments and court-related meetings.
  • Coordination with criminal court services, including programs such as VWAP, when appropriate.
  • Referrals and communication with family court supports and community services to help ensure coordinated care.
