Project Lifesaver Temiskaming & District is an initiative to better protect at risk individuals who are
prone to the life-threatening behaviour of wandering. Individuals who are at risk of wandering may include
those living with dementia, autism, down-syndrome, acquired brain injury or other cognitive conditions.
How does it work?
Project Lifesaver’s success relies on proven radio frequency technology to track missing clients
and trained first responders skilled in the use of project lifesaver equipment.
Individuals enrolled in Project Lifesaver are outfitted with a radio frequency transmitter to be worn on
their wrist or ankle at all times. Each transmitter emits an individualized frequency signal that is
unique to the client.
When an individual is missing, caregivers call 911 and specially trained first responders will attend the
wanderer’s area with receivers that triangulate the direction of the signal and help locate the client.
